MI vs GT | Twitter shook as Tilak's dropped sitter at crucial juncture leaves Ambanis unimpressed

Cricketers are just learning what footballers have long considered to be a cardinal principle -- always keep the owners happy. Tilak Varma was guilty of breaching the rule at Wankhede on Tuesday after his dropped catch doused any remaining hope left for Mumbai Indians, much to the Ambanis' dismay.
Gujarat Titans carried on with their trademark show of mature batsmanship against Mumbai Indians as they slowly but surely cruised towards a target of 156 at the Wankhede. Sai Sudharsan had a rare poor outing as he edged behind in just the second over itself but Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler steadied the ship in hostile conditions, counteracting the swing on offer with risk-free play to rack up a half-century stand. The GT skipper looked particularly determined to see the match through to the end even as he struggled to get in full flow, picking up the pace as the game went along. The longer he stayed, the slimmer the chances of Mumbai's victory became and when the star opener finally did present an opportunity for the hosts to bring themselves back in the contest, Tilak Varma failed to comply.
Up against Ashwani Kumar in the 12th over, Gill went for an ugly hoick and ended up sending the white rock soaring into the Mumbai night sky with Tilak sprinting in from long-on to get under the ball. The youngster was in position well before the ball descended upon him, only for what looked like a sitter to hit his palm and pop out on the turf to offer Gill a reprieve. Ashwani could not believe his luck, much like his senior counterpart Jasprit Bumrah, but it was the team owner Nita Ambani that had the most animated reaction. The Reliance Industries chairperson jumped out of her sideline seat and looked at her son beside him with blaring eyes and a shook expression on her face, the uncharacteristic show of emotions underpinning the sheer magnamity of the moment.
Twitter could not be more entertained.
