Learn who 14-year-old record-breaker Vaibhav Suryavanshi is after historic 35-ball ton

In 2008, the Indian Premier League came into existence. In 2010, Yusuf Pathan smashed a 37-ball ton to set a franchise record for Rajasthan Royals. A year later, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was born, and come 2025 the 14-year-old has been smashing records for fun -- but who is this young phenom?
Vaibhav Suryavanshi's story began in Samastipur, Bihar, where is cricketing talent was evident pretty much as soon as he picked up a bat. His family never shied from supporting the fledgling career with his father going as far as giving up his business and land to help fund his son's dreams. The efforts culminated in Vaibhav making his Ranji Trophy debut for Bihar at the age of 12, the youngest to do so in India's premier first-class competition since 1959-60, before topping the list when he was handed an India U-19 cap.
However, Suryavanshi truly announced his arrival on the international stage with a 58-ball centuryagainst Australia U-19 -- in a four-day game no less. This earned him a trial with Rajasthan Royals before the IPL 2025 auction, where he struck three sixes on the trot to impress coach Vikram Rathour. An intense bidding war thus ensued in Riyadh, and at the end of it Vaibhav had not only become a crorepati but also the youngest player to be bought by an IPL franchise after Rajasthan acquired his services for 1.1 crore.
On 19 April, Vaibhav became the youngest debutant too when he filled in for the injured Sanju Samson and had the entire IPL on notice when he tonked his first-ball for six. Nine days later, on April 28 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, the bustling sensation tore a star-studden Gujarat Titans bowling attack to sheds and racked up a 35-ball ton -- the second fastest in history behind Chris Gayle's 30-ball ton in 2011. Vaibhav smashed seven boundaries and 11 maximums in the process, including a 28-run over off Ishant Sharma and a 30-run over Karim Janat, before bringing up the milestone with a six off none other Rashid Khan.
Thus was born a new star.
