According to reports in ESPNcricinfo, IPL has come up with a back-up plan in case the BCCI gives a go-ahead for resuming the current edition. However, foreign players have started departing after IPL 2025 was suspended on Friday owing to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.

As per reports on ESPNcricinfo, IPL has come up with an alternate plan in case the BCCI gives them green signal to resume the tournament in the short term. With 16 matches, excluding the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match which was abandoned midway on Thursday, remaining to be played in IPL 2025, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad have been shortlisted as the secondary venues in case the tournament resumes shortly.

However, the BCCI officials emphasised that it will be difficult to resume the tournament in the short-term given the current environment. Additionally, the foreign players of all the teams have started departing to their home countries after the tournament was suspended for a week on Friday due to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.

An immediate resumption will make it challenging for foreign players to return again and with BCCI undecided on the cut-off dates, it may clash with the international calendar too with the World Test Championship 2023-25 final scheduled to start on June 11 followed by the new WTC cycle. The franchise officials, who spoke to ESPNcricinfo, conveyed that the remainder of the tournament could be played later in the year with BCCI and the IPL figuring out a suitable window for the foreign players to be back in action.
A total of 57 matches have been completed this season with IPL yet to decide on whether there will be a replay of the PBKS vs DC match that was abandoned on Thursday. The playoffs were originally scheduled to be played in Hyderabad and Kolkata respectively with Qualifier 1 and Eliminator going to the city of last year’s runner-up and Qualifier 2 and the final to be played at Kolkata on May 25.
