Cricket is a non-contact sport but Andre Russell explored the possibilities otherwise during the MI New York vs Los Angeles Knight Riders in MLC 2025. The all-rounder tried to play a funny round of rugby with Nicholas Pooran as he tried to hold the batter and stop him from taking a single.

‌MI New York retained their fourth place in the Major League Cricket 2025 season with a six-run win over Los Angeles Knight Riders at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill. Kieron Pollard’s all-round show, scoring a 36-ball 50 with the bat before returning to pick 2/12 in two overs, helped MI NY to their third win this season tallying six points from nine games.

Though the game was a low-scoring one, the West Indies players’ antics and banter kept the crowd entertained throughout the game. With Andre Russell coming in to bowl the ninth over of the game, MI NY had the left-handed duo of skipper Nicholas Pooran and Michael Bracewell at the crease.

Russell tickled the funny bone of the audience as he decided to have a funny game of rugby with fellow countryman Nicky P. The comical actions unfolded just as Bracewell pushed a short of the length delivery past the West Indies all-rounder and attempted a single.

Russell held Pooran’s arms and tried to stop him from completing the run as the southpaw resisted in a bid to reach the other end. The all-rounder, however, had to let Pooran go as the pair laughed at each other before continuing with the proceedings.

It was two-in-one action for the fans as they got to enjoy some rugby in between some dull cricketing moments.

That's funny!
