Gaurav Mukhi was cleared for registration by the All Indian Football Federation Disciplinary Committee six-months after he was handed the ban on November 25, 2018. Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee Usha Nath Banerjee said, “He had applied for fresh registration after complying with six-month ban providing a correct birth certificate. After verification, the committee cleared him for fresh registration today. He’s now eligible to play,” reported PTI.
Mukhi’s age factor came up after a brilliant display against Bengaluru FC in October, last year when he had scored his first ISL goal that helped Jamshedpur FC draw the game 2-2. Disclosing his age as 16-years-old at that time, he had even earned the tag of the youngest ever goal-scorer in ISL.
He was soon found guilty of age fraud on account of the evidence that the player himself provided along with his admission.
“He will be joining the Jamshedpur FC Reserve team and it will be up to the coaches and his performance that will decide his inclusion in the main team as he has been out for the last six months. The team management is happy and we will be elated when he joins the main team for the ISL”, announced CEO of Jamshedpur FC, Mukul Choudhari talking to The Avenue Mail.
