When the transfer window heated up, Arsenal secured a major coup by signing Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting Lisbon on a long-term contract. The 27-year-old arrives after a prolific two-year spell in Portugal, where he scored an astonishing 97 goals in 102 matches. During that period, Gyökeres led Sporting to back-to-back Primeira Liga titles and a domestic cup, also claiming the league’s top scorer crown in both seasons.

His international record is equally impressive, with 12 goals in his last 17 appearances for Sweden. Arsenal’s Sporting Director Andrea Berta praised the signing, calling Gyökeres a “perfect fit” due to his physicality, intelligence, and consistent high-level performances. Manager Mikel Arteta echoed the excitement, highlighting the striker’s clinical finishing, movement, and availability.

Gyökeres began his career in Stockholm with IF Brommapojkarna and later played for Brighton & Hove Albion, where he had loan spells at Swansea, St. Pauli, and Coventry City, eventually joining Coventry permanently and reaching the 2023 Championship Playoff final. Now set to wear the iconic No. 14 shirt, Gyökeres joins Arsenal’s pre-season tour in Asia immediately. The club is offering free shirt printing with his name until July 31. His transfer is subject to standard regulatory approval.
