Bruno Fernandes scored both goals as Manchester United defeated West Ham 2-1 in a Premier League US Summer Series match. Since the start of Manchester United's U.S. tour, the spotlight has been on their Premier League Summer Series performance and captain Bruno Fernandes delivered with a brace in a 2-1 win over West Ham in New Jersey. Fernandes capitalized on two crucial mistakes by West Ham’s goalkeeper Alphonse Areola. The Portuguese midfielder opened the scoring in the 5th minute from the penalty spot after Areola fouled Ayden Heaven.

He added a second in the 52nd minute, coolly finishing after Areola’s poor pass gifted possession to Kobbie Mainoo, who set up Fernandes. Despite Jarrod Bowen’s 63rd-minute goal and a late attempt on target, West Ham couldn’t find an equalizer. United held firm in the sweltering conditions at MetLife Stadium. Fernandes praised the team’s control and ball movement, while also noting the need for longer spells of possession.

New $87 million signing Bryan Mbeumo travelled with the squad but was not in the matchday lineup. He may debut in United’s next fixture against Bournemouth. In the same tournament, Bournemouth eased past Everton 3-0 with goals from Billing, Outtara, and Adu-Adjei. Jordan Pickford was beaten three times, with two second-half defensive lapses proving costly for Everton.
