India earned a morale-boosting draw in the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday. Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar scored resilient centuries to help India reach 425/4, and have an overall lead of 114 runs, when both teams agreed to a draw.

‌India showed tremendous resilience to save the fourth Test match against England at Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday. Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar scored fighting centuries on the final day of the contest to lead India’s batting show in the second innings. The visitors reached 425/4, extending their lead to 114 runs, before both sides agreed to a draw.

Starting the day at 174/2, India lost KL Rahul in the eighth over of the day, with Ben Stokes trapping him in front of the wicket to end his marathon innings of 90 that lasted 230 balls. But Shubman Gill was solid at the other end, bringing up his fourth century of the series before getting out on the stroke of lunch. Gill’s 103 had 12 fours in it, and his dismissal allowed England to go into lunch on a high, with the visitors placed at 223/4, still 88 runs away.

Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar, however, frustrated the home side in the second session, building a key partnership that saw India out of the woods. Sundar brought up his fifty in style, hitting the England skipper for a six and four in the same over. Jadeja scored his fifth fifty in the last six innings, a ball later, as India overcame the deficit to go into tea with a lead of 11 runs. The duo reached their 100-run association too, as the score read 322/4.

The story continued in the final session too, with Sundar and Jadeja frustrating England with their patient accumulation of runs. The visitors denied England captain Stokes’ request for a draw as both batters were well-placed, in their 80s, to complete memorable centuries. The pair completed their 200-run partnership before bringing up their hundreds to accept the handshake. Sundar remained unbeaten on 101 off 206 balls, scoring nine fours and a six, while Jadeja hit 13 fours and a six for his 107 in 185 balls.
