CSK vs PBKS | Twitter nervous as roaring Chepauk makes Dhoni banter about immediate retirement at toss

From World Cup and IPL winner medals being synonymous to his name, the first thought that now comes to mind when someone says Mahendra Singh Dhoni is 'retirement when?' The veteran is all too aware of the phenomenon, and does not shy from joking about it either as evident at Chepauk on Wednesday.

Chennai Super Kings took to their home ground against Punjab Kings in their 10th league stage of the year with the season hanging in the balance, given a loss would guarantee their elimination from the playoffs race. Leading from the front was once again Mahendra Singh Dhoni, named captain for half the season after Ruturaj Gaikwad's tournament ended early with injury, and that was all it took for Chepauk to break into frantic roaring. Such were the decibel volumes that presenter Danny Morrison sturggled to even conduct the toss ceremony without interruption, and all the chaos led to Mahendra Singh Dhoni once again displaying to the world his top-tier witticism.

After Shryeas Iyer explained his decision to bowl first, it was Dhoni's chance to walk up to the mic but before Danny could began conversing with him a loud cheer echoed around the stadium. The delirium seemed to stretch on endlessly as Morrison awaited patiently before his eyes lit up with the opportunity for a joke. The Kiwi quickly turned to Dhoni and with a giggle asked whether all this cheering would make him stay another year, given the veteran has been hinting at retirement for as many as five years now without committing to anything.

The CSK skipper was thoroughly amused as he let out a laugh himself but not one to be taken aback, the 40-year-old instantly shot back with, "I don't even know whether I am going to be hear for the next game." The moment made for great viewing on television and added to the growing compilation of toss banter, but a section of Twitterati was left feeling disquiet after the unsettling remark.
