WPL | Henry replaces injured Healy while RCB summons Aussie duo to cover up for Devine and Cross
After Australia captain Alyssa Healy was ruled out of the third edition of the Women’s Premier League with an injury, the UP Warriorz has named West Indies all-rounder Chinelle Henry as their replacement. Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have roped in Kim Garth and Heather Graham.
As per a release from WPL, the replacements for Healy, Sophie Devine, and Kate Cross have been named by the Warriorz and Bengaluru. Healy, who missed the last three T20Is and the one-off Test against England due to a foot injury has been ruled out of the premier Women’s competition in India. She was seen walking in moon boots during their recent multi-format Ashes. The Warriorz have announced Henry as her replacement for the forthcoming tournament.
This will be Henry’s first-ever WPL experience, having scored 473 runs in 62 T20Is while picking up 22 scalps at an economy of 6.84. Also, it is worth noting that the franchise has yet to name their stand-in skipper, and maybe Deepti Sharma could be the front-runner to fill Healy’s shoes.
On the flip side, New Zealand all-rounder Devine and English pacer Cross will miss out on the upcoming edition due to personal reasons. The defending champions have announced Graham and Garth as their replacements.
Graham, known for his all-round abilities played five T20Is and picked up eight wickets at a bowling average of 14.12. He is a medium pacer who can bowl across various phases while playing cameos lower down the order. The other replacement, Garth, is a better version of Graham with the ball as she snared 49 wickets from 51 innings at an economy of 6.17. She is well known for donning the new ball and already picked up a fifer in the WPL for the Gujarat Giants in WPL 2023.
All the three mentioned replacements will join their respective franchises at a base price of INR 30 Lakhs.
