Four officials from a CPL franchise were booked by anti-corruption authorities during the 2019 edition of the CPL. One of the accused officials was reported by the player to the anti-corruption authority and the accused was told to stop travelling with the team and was detained at Trinidad airport.
A player from a certain CPL franchise reported a corruption approach made towards him and four officials were booked by the anti-corruption officers, with one of the accused being close to or a part of the ownership structure. While the approach for corruption was not directly made, the player realized that he was groomed to carry out a corrupt activity in the future and thus he immediately approached the anti-corruption authorities to book the accused officials.
"Any such incident which is reported to the CPL is taken very seriously and investigated thoroughly," a CPL spokesperson told ESPNCricinfo.
"Our policy is that we do not comment on anti-corruption related matters or incidents. We are firmly committed to making sure the tournament's integrity is protected. We are very confident that our anti-corruption team, in conjunction with the ICC colleagues, make sure this remains the case," he further added.
According to the CPL spokesperson, there were five anti-corruption officers for the two legs of the tournament and each of them gave the players briefing about how to report to the officers in case a bookie approach is made.
"There was two staff per leg and someone overseeing the efforts so there were 5 in total," a CPL spokesperson said.
The ICC ACU has asked for a detailed report about the incident from the CPL officials and will give a judgement once a detailed review of the report is done.
