IPL 2024 | Twitter reacts to deadly Deshpande cleaning up Bairstow and Rossouw to offer a dream CSK start

One of the positives about tournaments like the IPL is the stage it offers to a variety of cricketers to showcase their abilities. Tushar Deshpande made the most out of the opportunity on Sunday after rattling Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw in a single over, offering a dream start to CSK.

Losing the toss for the tenth time in IPL 2024, Ruturaj Gaikwad did his best to stitch a 57-run second-wicket partnership with Daryl Mitchell before PBKS bowlers pegged back at them. However, a valiant Ravindra Jadeja 43 helped them reach 167/9 in 20 overs. Defending a tricky total, CSK would’ve wanted some early breakthrough and Deshpande just did enough to remove Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw in a single over.

Following a three-run first over from Mitchell Santner, Deshpande bowled a good length delivery from over the wicket at Jonny Bairstow on the third ball of the second over that the latter tried to push through the line. As fate had for the Englishman, the ball seamed in and whiskered past the inside edge to clatter onto the stumps. Two balls later, the Mumbai pacer produced yet another excellent delivery to help the ball gush through the gates of Rossouw and damage the furniture. Rossouw failed to judge the shade of in-seam off a length from the bowler, henceforth paving the way for a double-wicket over, leaving Deshpande and the Twitterverse in ecstasy.
