With the spotlight firmly on Manchester United’s turbulent season, Andre Onana’s goalkeeping errors have become a major talking point. Since his £47.5 million arrival from Inter Milan, Onana has made eight mistakes leading to goals, the most by any Premier League goalkeeper since the start of the 2023–24 season. Criticism intensified after a costly performance in the 2–2 draw against Lyon, where two errors directly led to goals.
Former United midfielder Nemanja Matic labelled Onana as one of the club’s worst-ever keepers, possibly in defence of David de Gea, whose departure still divides opinion. Ruben Amorim now faces a crucial decision ahead of United’s Europa League quarter-final second leg: stick with Onana or gamble on Altay Bayindir, who struggled during his rare appearances, including a shaky outing against Newcastle.
