ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 | Different-looking team, but still stable and established, Perry on ODI World Cup squad

Australia Women’s legendary all-rounder Ellyse Perry has backed the young and fresh Aussie team ahead of the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. The team will be going into the tournament without their top performers from their undefeated triumph in the 2022 edition.
Australia Women’s legendary all-rounder Ellyse Perry has shown a lot of confidence in her team, who will be looking to defend their title in the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. The two-time ODI world champion also expects the young talents within the squad to come good during the marquee event, which will start from September 30.
The Aussies have maintained their dominance in ICC events in Women’s cricket as well, with 13 titles to their name. The last World Cup saw them lift their seventh 50-over title, where they went undefeated throughout the tournament for the fifth time in the global event, with nine wins in a row. However, the current World Cup will see the Women in Yellow miss some of their top performers from the last edition, including the likes of Rachael Haynes, Meg Lanning, and Jess Jonassen. Despite the absence of these key players, Perry has backed the current squad to go the distance in a recent interview during a sponsorship announcement for Chemist Warehouse.
“Some fairly big changes to our group over the last four years. But in the last 12 months, we've had a fairly stable group and some really amazing young talents have emerged as mainstays as well, contributing consistently in every match. From that perspective, [it's] definitely a slightly different-looking team, but I think still a really stable and established team,” Perry said.
“Annabel's been absolutely superb for the last 12 months, probably before that, and to think that she's only still so young is quite incredible. Obviously, she won the Belinda Clark Medal last year, and she's been such a big contributor to our team in the last little bit. I think her coupled with Phoebe Litchfield, the way that she's been playing, Georgia Voll as well, since she's had an opportunity at an international level… there's some really, really special young players that we've got in the group. I think they balance out the experience that we have as well," she added.
As part of the preparations ahead of the World Cup, the Aussie Women visit India for a three-match ODI series from September 14. While the first two games will be hosted by the New PCA stadium in Chandigarh, the third and final ODI game will be played at the iconic Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
