ENG vs WI | Overton ruled out of remaining ODIs and T20I series with broken finger
England all-rounder Jamie Overton has been ruled out of the remaining West Indies tour after suffering a broken finger during the first ODI while fielding off his own bowling. The hosts have decided not to announce a replacement and use one of the squad's reserve players instead to fill in.
31-year-old Jamie Overton will take no further part in the two remaining ODIs and three T20Is to follow against the West Indies owing to a fracture little finger in his right hand. The right-arm quick suffered the injury during the first ODI in Birminghan on Friday while trying to catch a Keacy Carty bazooka off his own bowling, causing him to walk off the field immediately for treatment. However, Overton did return later with a bandaged finger to claim three scalps and end with 5.2 overs to his name but has now been slated for recovery and rehabilitation under the supervision of the England Cricket Board.
Overton has represented England in six ODIs and 12 T20Is so far, apart from a solitary Test appearance, and taken 18 wickets with the white-ball while playing a couple of entertaining cameos down the order. The Devon-born has become a regular for the national team in recent times, filling into the Sam Curran-sized void after the all-rounder suffered a huge decline in form, and was also snapped up by Chennai Super Kings for IPL 2025 where he played three games but ended up wicketless.
No replacements have been announced for Overton, paving the path for squad incumbents Matthew Potts and Luke Wood to stake a place in the XI. There's also the left-field option of orthodox spinner Tom Hartley at the disposal of head coach Brendon McCullum and skipper Harry Broook.
