Yashasvi Jaiswal was in a battling mood for India against England at Edgbaston on Wednesday

Gone are the days when host nations could dictate play against India and enjoy the subdued characters of visitors wilting under pressure. Yashasvi Jaiswal belongs to that new generation of confident superstars willing to believe they are good as the best if not better, as was evident at Edgbaston.

India endured a difficult start after being asked to bat first under overcast skies in the second Test against England which culminated in KL Rahul succumbing to Chris Woakes following a tortorous 26-ball stay worth just two runs. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal stayed patient at the other end and punished any loosener that come his way, despite Brydon Carse and Woakes keeping things as tight as possible. Once the opening spells were suffered through, the opener let loose against first change bowlers Josh Tongue and Ben Stokes, unleashing his best with the bat and not afraid to back it up with his words.

Jaiswal's onslaught began with three boundaries off Tongue in the 16th over, followed by a gorgeous on-drive against Stokes the very next over. High on confidence and racing towards another half-century, the opener let the rival skipper know the damage he was meting out. However, Stokes was clearly not interested enough as he asked the youngster to "p**s off",  to which Jaiswal boldly replied, "You don't want to hear from me, Stokesy." The conversation then resumed after over was called as the two shared another exchange before walking back to their marks.

Twitterati was thrilled at the possibility of a spicy battle between two world-class operators.
