KL Rahul scored an unbeaten fifty on his return to Lucknow to take DC past the chequered flag against LSG on Tuesday

KL Rahul made a memorable return to the Ekana on Tuesday with an unbeaten half-century, albeit in a Delhi Capitals jersey, as the visitors comfortably chased down 160. Mukesh Kumar led the bowling effort with four wickets before Abishek Porel set the stage for the NRR-boosting victory.

Brief score: LSG 159/6 (20) [Markram 52(33), Marsh 45(36); Mukesh Kumar 4/33 (4)] lost to DC 161/2 (17.5) [Rahul 57* (42), Porel 51(36); Markram 2/30 (4)] by eight wickets

Put into bat first, LSG had a good start with Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh taking the side past the 50-run mark in the first six overs. Markram was all class with sixes over square leg and long on while Marsh welcomed Dusmantha Chameera with a huge six. Markram continued his blitz even after the powerplay, bringing up his fourth half-century this season in just 30 balls. The Capitals got the first breakthrough as Markram holed out in the deep with the score reading 87/1 at the end of 10 overs. Mitchell Starc made matters worse by  rearranging in-form Nicholas Pooran’s stumps for the second time this season, outfoxing him with a slower delivery. That was the start of an excellent turnaround for the visiting side with pacer Mukesh Kumar picking up two wickets in one over, the second one a jaffa to send back Mitchell Marsh with a reverse swinging yorker. LSG could manage just 72 runs in the last 10 overs losing five wickets during the time. Impact player Ayush Badoni’s cameo of 36 off 21 balls, which included six fours, helped the Super Giants cross the 150-run mark as they set the Capitals with a target of 160.

In response, the Capitals got off to a brisk start and outscored LSG in the powerplay, despite losing Karun Nair in the fourth over. Their eight fours and a maximum led them to 54/1, setting the perfect foundation for a comfortable chase. However, the LSG spinners tightened things up by conceding just 26 runs in the next four overs to give the team a glimmer of hope. Before they could dream too big, Porel and KL Rahul hit a six each in the very next over to plunder 16 runs, the former completing his fifty in the process. From then on, it was all Delhi as skipper Axar Patel took over the mantle from the young opener in the 12th over with 55 still to get, and practically sealed the deal with two maximums off Ravi Bishnoi soon after. Before scoring the winning six in the 18th over, Rahul brought up his half-century and also went past 5,000 IPL runs to take DC back level on points with leaders Gujarat Titans.
