MI vs CSK | Clinical Mumbai make Chennai sink further as Rohit-Surya accomplish 16-over chase

Mumbai Indians had to hardly break a sweat at the Wankhede on Sunday as they chased down Chennai Super Kings' 176 in just 15.4 overs, courtesy unbeaten fifties from Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja had earlier sparked some life into CSK but it was far from enough.

Asked to bat first, Chennai Super Kings got off to another terrible start as Shaikh Rasheed and Rachin Ravindra accumulated just 16 in three overs against the swinging new ball before the latter succumbed to Ashwini Kumar. However, young Ayush Mhatre made heads turn on his professional T20 debut with three boundaries in the very same over, before adding a couple more enroute to a blistering 15-ball 32. Nevertheless, Mumbai brought themselves ripping back into the encounter by dispatching both incumbent batters in quick succession before strangling Shivam Dube and Ravindra Dube with spin at both ends. It took Dube's four off Boult in the 12th over to break the 30-ball boundary drought to finally inject some life into the innings, as both Ravindra Jadeja and him went on a boundary spree towards the death. The former ended unbeaten on 53 off 35, while Dube contributed with 50 off 32 as their 79-run stand took CSK to a competitive 176/5.

In response, Mumbai never gave the visitors time to settle as both Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma scored fours and sixes for a fun in a powerplay worth 62. Even though the Proteas departed four balls after the fielding restrictions ended, it only brought more doom to the Super Kings courtesy the arrival of Suryakumar Yadav. The hard-hitting number three struck six boundaries and five maxumums to add to his excellent sesson, while Rohit breathed himself into life with four fours and six sixes to take the team home in just the 16th over, their partnership reading an unbeaten 114 off just 54 deliveries.
