Raheem Sterlings Chelsea Future Uncertain After Arsenal Loan Flop

Raheem Sterling is set to return to Chelsea after a disappointing loan at Arsenal, where he scored just once in the EFL Cup and provided two Premier League assists. With five wingers ahead of him and Pedro Neto wearing the No. 7 shirt, new boss Enzo Maresca has sidelined him from pre-season plans.

When the 2024-25 season ended, Raheem Sterling's future took a major hit following an underwhelming loan spell at Arsenal. Despite arriving on deadline day in what was seen as a final chance to revive his career, Sterling managed only one goal, against Bolton in the EFL Cup and just two assists in the Premier League. Arsenal made an early decision in May not to extend the deal, and by June 4, he officially returned to Chelsea.

However, Sterling's position at Stamford Bridge appears bleak. Since his arrival from Manchester City in 2022, Chelsea have signed five new wide forwards, and his iconic number seven shirt has already been handed to Pedro Neto. With Enzo Maresca taking over as head coach, Sterling was immediately sidelined from first-team plans.

Though excluded from Chelsea’s Club World Cup squad, Sterling is trying to stay fit and relevant. On June 27, he shared an Instagram story featuring a group workout with sports agency 16NinetyTwo, signalling he's open to offers. Still, no clear suitor has emerged, and Chelsea may be set for another summer of difficult negotiations. Meanwhile, the club eyes new signings like Lyon's Malick Fofana, which could push Sterling even further toward the exit.
