In the first game following the sacking of Claudio Ranieri, the manager who led Leicester City to the Premier League title last year, the Foxes produced a superb display to defeat a struggling Liverpool 3-1. This victory also helped Leicester to move out of the relegation zone.
Jamie Vardy opened the scoring for the Foxes in the 28th minute from Marc Albrighton's precise long pass. After collecting the ball, Vardy raced past Simon Mignolet to score his second goal in a week. Vardy's England teammate Danny Drinkwater doubled the lead in the 39th minute.
Vardy scored his second goal of the match by glancing a header from Christian Fuchs' cross in the second half before Liverpool striker Philippe Coutinho struck a consolation goal.
The victory ended Foxes' goalless run in the League in 2017 as well as a run of five straight top-flight defeats.
Liverpool, who would have climbed to third had they won this game, have lost five of their last seven matches in all competitions.
Praising the splendid performance by the team, newly appointed Leicester manager Craig Shakespeare said, "I could see in their eyes that they were up for the fight in the warm-up.
"The professionalism of the players has never been questioned by me. Having taken training with them, I know the criticism has hurt and perhaps there was a little more fire in the belly because of that.
"They know they are guilty of underperforming - but this is only one result and we must build on that."
