South Africans share a special bond with the IPL and have delivered several explosive hitters. From AB de Villiers to Heinrich Klaasen, and now Dewald Brevis, who displayed his brute strength by hammering 30 runs in a single over off Kolkata Knight Riders’ Vaibhav Arora at the Eden Gardens.

‌In response to Kolkata Knight Riders’ 179/6, Chennai Super Kings stumbled early, losing three wickets in the powerplay and crawling to 37/3 in just three overs. The slide continued as Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin fell within the powerplay, leaving Chennai reeling at 60/5 in 5.2 overs with Shivam Dube and Dewald Brevis at the crease. That’s when the South African star lit up Eden Gardens. Brevis turned the tide by taking Vaibhav Arora to the cleaners, smashing 30 runs in a single over.

On the first ball of the 11th over, Arora came over the wicket and bowled a pitched-up delivery around off. Brevis launched it flat and hard onto the ground. Angkrish Raghuvanshi, stationed at long-off, misjudged it and tried to take it with fingers pointing upwards but the ball sneaked through his hands for a six. The next delivery was a fuller ball on the pads, which Brevis casually flicked past the short fine leg for four.

As CSK fans finally found a reason to cheer, Arora served a low full toss outside off. Brevis stepped back and drilled it over the bowler’s head for another boundary. The Himachal seamer looked dejected as Brevis continued the assault. On the fourth ball, Arora bowled a juicy full toss around off, and Brevis again sent it soaring flat over the bowler for six. The punishment didn’t end there. Another full toss followed as Brevis smoked it deep into the stands from the back of the crease. The carnage ended with a short-of-a-length delivery outside off, but the damage was done. Brevis pounced on the width and hammered it through the covers for four more. Twitter lit up in response, with fans raving about the raw power Brevis put on display.
