Hobart Hurricanes batted first after winning the toss, and they were bundled out at the score of just 125 runs in 16.1 overs. The Hurricanes lost half of their team at the score of just 68 runs in 7.4 overs. However, the skipper Ben McDermott displayed a bit of resilience in the top order, scoring a quick knock of 21 runs. Furthermore, Nikhil Chaudhary also stayed there in the middle to rescue his side from miserable conditions, contributing with a 21-run knock. Lower-order batter Fabian Allen ended up as the leading run-scorer for his side, scoring 28 runs to help his side post a 100+ total on the board.
The Warriors’ bowlers kept the game in their hold from the first over, leaving the Hurricanes’ batting lineup clueless. Gudakesh Motie (3/9) was the most economical bowler, with an excellent economy rate of 2.84. He was accompanied by the veteran all-rounder Moeen Ali and skipper Imran Tahir as they ended up getting two wickets each.
Guyana Amazon Warriors got a shaky start while chasing the target as they lost two wickets after scoring just 17 runs in 3.1 overs. However, Moeen Ali stabilised the run chase for the Warriors, playing an unbeaten knock (30 runs/36 balls). Shimron Hetmyer’s six-hitting prowess proved to be a game-changing factor for the hosts as he smashed 39 runs off just 10 balls.
These knocks helped GAW chase down the target comfortably, scoring 128/6 in just 16.3 overs. Billy Stanlake’s three-wicket haul and Mohammad Nabi’s economical spell for the Hurricanes went in vain as the other bowlers failed to contain the runs.
Gudakesh Motie of the Warriors, won the ‘Player of the Match’ award for playing a pivotal role in his team’s all-important victory to qualify for the tournament’s summit clash.
