ENG vs IND | Twitter concerned as Gill gets nasty bonk on head while fielding in slips

Slip fielders on average have half a second to react against spin bowlers -- a split moment to judge the deflection off the bat and veer their hands accordingly. Shubman Gill has proven himself to be capable of getting the difficult job done, but a slight lapse at Edgbaston nearly led to calamity.

‌England siezed momentum on Day 3 like only they could, despite losing two early wickets in the morning, as Harry Brook and Jamie Smith combined for a century stand off just 88 balls. The latter put up a brilliant counterattack to smash the likes of Prasidh Krishna for a 23-run over, rapidly converting his 43-ball half-century into a brilliant 80-ball ton. Brook, meanwhile, held steady at the other end but kept the odd boundary coming for himself too as before long it was India who were on the backfoot desperate to break the partnership. Amidst all this chaos, the visitors nearly suffered an even bigger blow but eventually survived wothout damage.

On the second ball of the 37th over, Ravindra Jadeja floated a length ball wide to Brook who slashed hard at it as he often does. However, the Dukes tooka  thick outside edge off his willow this time, and flew behind the wicket towards the lone slip Gill. The Indian skipper promptly raised his hands in reaction but practically was defenseless as the red cherry struck Gill square on the emblem of the cap on his head, sending him hurling to the ground. Once the batsmen run two, the physios were brought on to administer treatment as Gill kept rubbing his forehead in visible discomfort.

Fortunately for the visitors, Gill was deemed fit to continue, and Twitterati duly celebrated.

Ouchh!!!

That hurts!

Yeah man!

Scary!
