DEL vs RLY | Twitter in splits as fans push for Kohli's move into politics on his Delhi Ranji return

Few fandoms in the world can compare to the hysteria that surrounds cricket in India, especially when it comes to the biggest names in the sport that have brought national glory . Virat Kohli knows this all to well, as he was serenaded by chants and victim to pitch invaders upon his Ranji return.

‌Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday was the stage for Virat Kohli's first Ranji Trophy appearance since November 2012, when he had less than 5,000 international runs to his name and had only just begun to stand out as a great of the game. When he took to the field on Thursday, that number had inflated to well over 27,000 runs and his reception at the venue reflected the immense success and respect cricket has brought him. However, as is often the case with sports, chants can never be straightforward and Delhites resorted to an age old classic to pay tribute to their main man.

With a long queue outside the stadium awaiting entry to catch a glimpse of Kohli, fans impromptu broke out into a song of, "Humaara neta kaise ho? Virat Kohli jaisa ho! [What should our politician be like? Virat Kohli!]." There was definitely a lack of collective creativity though as other chants were content with describing the 36-year-old with venerating adjectives such as 'beautiful'.

Unfortunately for fans, they had to wait their turn to watch the legend with the bat as it was Railway who took to the crease first, albeit they were quickly reduced to 21/3 against the new ball on a seaming track.
