DEL vs RLY | Twitter questions serious security lapse in Delhi as pitch invaders swarm Kohli

There is a fine line that separates passion from delusion, one subcontinent cricket fans often forget in their pursuit of entertainment. Virat Kohli received a grand reception upon his Ranji return for Delhi but the hysteria turned into concern when security failed to contain the crowd.

Delhi cruised their way to an innings victory against Railway on Saturday courtesy of a five-wicket haul from Shivam Sharma that bowled them out for 114 after conceding a first innings lead of 133 runs. However, the result was far from the first focus on the day as crowds turned out in large numbers to greet their returning hero Virat Kohli back in Delhi colours for the first time in 2013, and a first Ranji Trophy for the legend in over 12 years. However, with the match nearing an end, things quickly turned awry courtesy of a security lapse.

The match was underway when a host of pitch invaders climbed past the fences to seek Kohli standing in the cover and point region. The 36-year-old was already surrounded by the onrushers by the time security came running to rescue him and fortunately no harm was done in the brief interval separating the two. Videos later surfaced of policemen and security staff having to pull down men from fences with as many as three men required in some instances to keep a single fan at bay.

Twitterati was quick to comment on the idiocy of the pitch invaders and criticize the lack of security measures given the occasion at hand.
