DC vs MI | Twitter horrified as brutal collision between Mukesh and Ashutosh leaves both men wincing

Even though cricket is not a typical contact sport, the combination of leather-cork orbs, wooden willows, and freakish physical specimens make injuries inevitable. Two nearly arrived in the worst possible fashion on Sunday when a catch attempt left Mukesh Kumar and Ashutosh Sharma prone on the deck.

A rapid start from Ryan Rickelton followed by a quickfire 40 from Suryakumar Yadav and a second consecutive half-century from Tilak Varma saw Mumbai Indians post a competitive total of 205/5 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, after being asked to bat first by the Delhi Capitals. However, the latest of those innings did not occur without its share of luck, as the youngster was dropped on several occassions throughout his 33-ball stay -- the latest of which nearly left two host players in the hospital.

Batting on 54 in the penultimate over of the match, Tilak tried to take on a full and wide ball against Mohit Sharma but could not reach the Kookaburra properly as it hit the lower part of his bat and ballooned towards the off-side. With the white rock headed for a gap, both Ashutosh Sharma at short-fine leg and Mukesh Kumar at short-square leg went racing towards the ball with the latter swooping towards the ball with an extended hand. However, the sheer duration of the entire incident meant there was no time for calling or intentful decision making, and the two men inevitably collided before falling in a heap while the ball trickled behind to allow the batsmen three runs.

Both Ashutosh and Mukesh layed on the ground wincing until the physios came over to attend them, the latter clutching his bowling shoulder while looking in pain. Fortunately, neither man endured any serious blows and were deemed fit to carry on, but Twitterati had its say over the horrible emotions the moment evoked in them.
