KKR vs SRH | Twitter Reacts as Jaydev 'Unlucky' Unadkat survives being bowled only to get out LBW

Every cricketer experiences the whims of fortune, both good and bad, but sometimes luck seems particularly cruel on the grandest stage. Such was the case in the IPL 2024 finals, where Sunrisers' Jaydev Unadkat narrowly escaped being bowled, only to be given out LBW shortly after.

‌Choosing to bat first proved to be one of Pat Cummins's most regrettable decisions in the finals against the Knight Riders. The move backfired from the outset with the Sunrisers losing four wickets within seven overs. Kolkata's bowlers were in prime form consistently taking wickets and leaving Hyderabad struggling at 70/5 by the 11th over. The misery continued as Shahbaz Ahmed and Heinrich Klaasen were dismissed in the middle overs. Amidst Hyderabad’s poor batting performance, a particularly unfortunate moment occurred in the 18th over, sealing Jaydev Unadkat’s fate.

On the last ball of the 18th over, Sunil Narine delivered an off-break to the Saurashtra bowler. The ball spun sharply as Unadkat leaned forward to push it down the ground towards mid-on. Attempting to play with an angled bat, Unadkat missed the ball which struck his pad and then hit the leg stump. However, the bails failed to dislodge, even as the stump lights briefly flickered. Narine immediately appealed, but on-field umpire Nitin Menon ruled it not out. Kolkata skipper Shreyas Iyer reviewed the decision and the replay showed no bat involved with the ball hitting the leg stump, which it technically did. The Kolkata contingent celebrated as the review overturned the decision, further unravelling the Sunrisers' batting lineup.

The Twitterverse was abuzz with reactions, discussing Jaydev Unadkat’s misfortune and criticizing Nitin Menon’s umpiring decision.
