Parents often live the dream of their children, and their success directly adds to happiness. Mutyala Reddy, father of Nitish Reddy was emotional at the MCG during the Boxing Day Test after witnessing his son’s maiden Test century that helped India come alive from adversity on the third day.

India lost a couple of wickets in the morning session of the third day as left-handers Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja failed to convert their starts. However, Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy forged a formidable stand to keep the hosts at bay by consolidating a 127 runs partnership. While Sundar got to a half-century, Nitish notched up his maiden Test century. However, the Hyderabad-based youngster’s journey became even more difficult when he neared the milestone mark, leaving his father nervous at the stands.

After three dots to Mohammed Siraj with a wicket in hand, Nitish finally got the strike back unbridled at 99. He faced a couple of dots against Scott Boland with a thud at the pad on the second ball of the 115th over. Right after, he shimmed down the ground and lofted a hard-length delivery at the stumps over mid on for a four and raced to his century. Whenever the batter lost out of partners and was beaten on edges, his father at the stands was seen expressing extreme anxiety. He prayed throughout the innings amidst his family members at the stands and was overjoyed after Nitish got to a hard-earned century. Mr. Mutyala finally opened up during an interview with Adam Gilchirst and Michael Vaughan, leaving the Twitterverse emotional.
