Sachin Tendulkar and Dilip Vengsarkar have been named in the list of 39 international players who are eligible to vote in the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) elections, scheduled to be held on October 4. This is the first time that former players are allowed to vote in the state association polls.

The change in protocol comes courtesy of the Lodha panel reforms of the BCCI’s constitution coming into effect. An MCA official, on Monday, confirmed that the following international starts are eligible to vote: Abey Kuruvilla, Ajit Agarkar, Ajit Pai, Avishkar Salvi, Chandrakant Pandit, Chandrakant Patanakar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Jatin Paranjpe, Nilesh Kulkarni, Paras Mbambrey, Pravin Amre, Ramesh Powar, Sachin Tendulkar, Sairaj Bhutule, Salil Ankola, Sameer Dighe, Sandeep Patil, Sanjay Bangar, Sanjay Manjrekar, Sudhir Naik, Surendra Natak, Umesh Kulkarni, Vinod Kambli and Zaheer Khan. The list, put up by the state association on its official website, is completed by women players who have represented India.

As far as the election candidates are concerned, PTI reported that Vijay Patil is the presidential candidate of the Bal Mahaddalkar Group, while Amol Kale and Sanjay Naik are its candidates for the post of vice-president and secretary. Whether Patil will have a smooth run in the polls will only be clear when the final list of candidates is announced. It is learnt that Patil will file his nomination papers on Tuesday, the last date to complete the procedure.
