Eoin Morgan has revealed that he would prefer heading into the ICC World Cup 2019 with the ‘favorites’ tag as compared to not even being considered as contenders for WC trophy in 2015. England begin their World Cup campaign against Faf du PLessis-led South Africa at the Kennington Oval in London.

The English cricket team have truly risen from the ashes in the last four years and find themselves in position to lift this year’s ICC World Cup trophy in the coming weeks to follow. The three lions exited the 2015 version of the tournament in the group stages itself to much scrutiny from critics and media houses across the globe.

However, under the leadership of Eoin Morgan, the British national cricket team have upped their ante and have slowly and steadily made their way to the top of the ICC rankings in recent years. Morgan & Co. are the top -anked ODI team in the world at the moment and will enter the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 as favorites, something which the skipper is extremely proud about.

"It's a huge compliment. I would much rather be going in as favourites than not even considered as contenders. We have felt ready the last week or so. If we didn't play these warm up games, we still would have been in a position where we felt confident going into that first game," Morgan was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz after the warm-up match against Afghanistan.

England take on South Africa in their World Cup campaign opener on May 30 at the Oval in London. The three lions have had some injury scares in recent weeks to pacer Mark Wood, spinner Adil Rashid after Morgan himself suffered a dislocated finger. However, the trio have been passed fit and will be in contention to feature in the opening match against Faf du Plessis & Co.

"At some stage (over the World Cup) we will have injuries, so we are going to have to deal with that as and when. The level of intensity of the 50 over game somebody is going to get injured," Morgan added.
