Rahul Dravid has decided to disassociate himself from his employers at India Cements in order to take up the role offered by the BCCI. Dravid, who was supposed to take up his position as NCA chief on July 1, will start working at the academy in Bangalore to groom the next generation of cricketers.
As per the BCCI constitution, an individual cannot hold multiple positions at the same time. So, when Rahul Dravid was appointed Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, his paid employment at India Cements became a conflict of interest.
The BCCI ethics officer, Justice (Retd.) D.K. Jain discussed the matter with the Committee of Administrators, before advising Dravid to disassociate himself from the manufacturing company. According to a report in The Hindu, the former Indian skipper has taken a leave of absence from India Cements until such time as he serves at the helm of the NCA.
Dravid was offered a two-year role to groom the next generation of cricketers, chart out a roadmap for junior cricket, monitor the upcoming women cricketers, and offer world-class rehab programmes for injured cricketers. He will also be the in-charge of appointing the coaching staff at NCA and different zonal academies in India.
However, this new role would mean that the former head coach of India U-19 and ‘A’ teams will not be able to travel with the squad from here on.
