Kolkata Knight Riders bowler Harry Gurney has refused to tag the Royal Challengers Bangalore batting line-up, barring Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, as pushovers. The experienced T20 veteran has also been of the opinion that the second phase of the tournament would very important for his side.
KKR would be hosting RCB at Eden Gardens on Friday as they struggle to get out of their losing streak following a decent start to the tournament with four wins from five games. And Gurney has been of the opinion that his side wouldn't be taking it easy against the struggling RCB batting lineup, even players apart from Kohli and de Villiers.
“In IPL whoever you play against, there are several world-class players. Kohli and de Villiers are obviously two of the best in the world. It’s important not to underestimate the rest of the batting line-up,” Gurney said, reported The Hindu.
After three consecutive defeats halted their good run, KKR have had a four-day break before they resume their relentless IPL schedule. And an experienced Gurney, who has played for Melbourne Renegades and Quetta Gladiators before, has stated that the upcoming half of the season would be very important for the team.
“The small break has come in good time for us. Any T20 tournament you play around the world, the second stage is important. Actually, it's amazing how often you see the teams that run away with it in the group stages don’t end up going on to win a trophy. We are not too down in the dumps. We know we are a good team and are excited about the next few matches,” said Gurney.
KKR’s bowling has always been under fire for their inefficacy this season and it has been their batting, which has saved them from time to time. However, despite their bowling unit picking only 30 wickets in eight matches, Gurney has been of the opinion that they could perform better only if the batsmen and bowlers work in tandem.
“I think with bat and ball you are always striving for your perfect game. We got close to that probably against Rajasthan (Royals) and we know we are capable of as a group. For the last six matches of the season, if we can turn up and pull it all together with bat and ball, then we are going to be a tough team to beat," concluded Gurney.
