India has potential to win abroad, asserts Adam Gilchrist

Adam Gilchrist has mentioned that the current Indian cricket team has a good bowling attack and quality batsmen to win matches in overseas conditions. The former Aussie wicket-keeper also said that he admires Virat Kohli's captaincy but didn't make any tactical comment on his leadership roles.

With the Indian team playing a Test series in England, Gilchrist has made comments on the qualities of the current Indian cricket team under the captaincy of Kohli. Team India has already conceded an unassailable lead in the ongoing series and are not in a great position either in the final Test at The Oval. The Indian bowling has done well against the English top-order while the bowlers have found it difficult to wipe out the tail. On the other hand, skipper Kohli has inspired the team with his batting and Gilchrist admires his aggression.

"It is challenging playing overseas. I do believe India have a strong bowling unit and some quality batsmen, including the best batsmen in the world, Virat Kohli. They have the potential to win overseas, perhaps it is just mind more than the body," Gilchrist told PTI.

"What I admire about Virat's captaincy is his tenacity and the way he drags his team with him just by being positive. Tactically, I cannot comment because I have not watched enough content, except the highlights. Virat is that guy who is passionate about leading his team and the nation forward. I see positive things about his captaincy and leadership."

The Indian team will tour Australia in November this year to play three T20Is, four Tests and three ODIs. After the England tour, this will be India's next abroad series and the Aussie bowlers will not want Kohli to score as he is doing in the ongoing series in England.

"The Aussie crowd always want to go under the skin of opposition players. Virat has matured to a great deal since that last tour. He (Kohli) looks to me a guy who likes challenges when the chips are down. Perhaps, we don't want to upset him because he is the best player in the world. From Australia's point of view, they do not want him to score heavily as he is currently doing in England. "

Gilchrist also spoke about the upcoming ICC World Cup to be held in England next year and added that  the hosts, India and Australia will be the favorites while Pakistan can bring in some surprises by going into the tourney as the dark horse.
