Yasir’s spell yesterday perfectly encapsulated the art of leg-spin and if you haven’t yet watched the game, you have surely missed something spectacular. He used the footmarks to get the maximum bite out of the pitch and his change in pace coupled with the shrewd use of the crease made the batsmen suffer to no end. It was a package for the ages. He picked up no less than 10 wickets over the course of the day to frustrate New Zealand and that went further up when he affected a run-out dismissal.

On the fourth ball in the 30th over of New Zealand innings, Watling had squeezed a Yasir leg-break towards cover and there was a confusion between Watling and Kane Williamson that whether they should go for the run. Amidst the confusion, the duo decided to run, but Hasan Ali was quick to get onto the bowl and he threw the ball towards the bowler’s end. 

It was a simple throw that Yasir should have managed to pick and dislodge the bails, but he made a mess of it as he failed to control the ball. The mess up was so obvious that even Sarfraz Ahmed looked confident that Yasir had missed the opportunity with the stump mic picking up his voice screaming at Yasir to hold onto the ball. However, replays showed how lucky the spinner really was as the ball hit his palm and deflected onto the stumps before his hand got in the way. While Watling was sliding his bat in, the ball, however, upon deflection, went on to hit the stumps to end Watling’s brief stay in the middle.
