Ravichandran Ashwin has been picked to lead the Kings XI Punjab franchise for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League that starts in April. The Mohali-based franchise took to Twitter to make the announcement of their new skipper whom they bought for a whopping INR 7.6 crores.

After Chennai Super Kings returned to IPL following a two-year suspension owing to betting scandal, the Chennai-based franchise retained MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, and Ravindra Jadeja ahead of the auction from their former core. Despite Dhoni stating that the side would go all out for Ashwin in the mega-auction, they were seen bidding only once.

However, the off-spinner didn’t run out suitors and saw a fierce bidding war between Delhi Daredevils and Punjab, before the latter managed to snap him up. Kings XI Punjab spent INR 7.6 crores for the Tamil Nadu cricketer and since that day, it was widely suggested that he would be leading the team.

When the Chennai-based side was suspended in 2016, the Indian off-spinner played for Rising Pune Supergiant during the 2016 and 2017 season and it will be the first time he will come face to face with MS Dhoni after playing with him for 10 years.
