India vs Australia | Virat Kohli should stick to what he knows best, suggests Zaheer Khan

India fell to an unfortunate 146-run defeat in the second Test match at Perth on Monday as the home team levelled the ongoing four-match series 1-1. However, despite a strong 123 in the first innings, Indian captain Virat Kohli was criticised for his on-field behaviour and the incident which also involved opposition captain, Tim Paine.

But former India pacer Zaheer Khan is of the opinion that the Indian skipper should just keep his head down and continue to do what he does best, which is scoring a lot of runs. Khan added that the Delhi-born cricketer does not need to tone down his aggression as that is what separates him from the others.

"I would say (Virat) stick to what you know best. Stick to what has got you so much of success. You can't move away from your success formula. It doesn't matter what others are saying (about Kohli). Series in Australia have always been (intense) like this," Zaheer told PTI.

Another ex-Indian bowler, Praveen Kumar, echoed Zaheer’s sentiment as he added that Kohli has displayed the same aggression since his U-16 days and also while he was captain of the world cup-winning U-19 team too.

"Kohli played with aggression at the U-16, U-19 and Ranji Trophy level. What is the issue if he is showing the same aggression while playing for India? I have played a lot of cricket with him and I can safely say that he can't play his best cricket without aggression," Kumar said during the launch of Ferit Cricket Bash.

Khan, who was recently appointed as Mumbai Indians’ Director of Cricket Operations, also went on to praise the current Indian bowling attack which comprised the likes of Mohammad Shami, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav, and Ravichandran Ashwin.

"I think as a unit, yes (they are the best ever) when you look at the four five fast bowlers on tour. In a long long time, you can see the potential of each and every fast bowler including the bench strength. The fact that you won the first Test, it was never going to be easy after that. Australian team was actually on the backfoot after Adelaide but now the series is levelled. But before India departed for Australia, they were billed as favourites. They still are," concluded Zaheer.
