Chennai Test to go ahead as planned, says Rajeev Shukla

Senior BCCI official Rajeev Shukla has confirmed that the final Test against England will proceed as per plan in Chennai amidst rumours that the venue might be changed due to Cyclone Vardah that has already claimed four lives and forced evacuation of thousands from Tamil Nadu’s coastal areas.

“Fifth Test will take place in Chennai. Tamil Nadu Sports Authority is keen on hosting it. No changes as of now,” IPL chairman Shukla told ANI news agency.

India won the fourth Test in Mumbai on Monday (Dec 12) to seal the series 3-0. The final Test starts at the Chidambaram Stadium on Dec 16.

Tamil Nadu has been under alert for the last 10 days and was hit by fierce winds and heavy rainfall on Dec 12, forcing air travel and suburban train services to be suspended in Chennai.

CycloneVardah originated in southern Thailand and is expected to hit Karnataka today (Dec 13) and pass over south Goa tomorrow (Dec 14).
