Virender Sehwag becomes MCC's honorary life member

Virender Sehwag was made an honorary member of the esteemed Marylebone Cricket Club on Tuesday, joining the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid. Found in 1787, MCC remains one of the oldest cricket clubs in the world with over 18,000 full members.

"It is always a pleasure to welcome new honorary life members to the club, and Virender is no exception," John Stephenson, the head of cricket at the MCC said, reported Cricbuzz.  

Praising Sehwag’s exploits as a batsmen during his career , Stephenson said, "He was a wonderfully entertaining player throughout his career and has also represented MCC with aplomb in the past, so is fully deserving of this honour."

Sehwag represented India in 104 Tests, 251 One-Day Internationals, and 19 Twenty20 Internationals, scoring a combined total of 16,892 runs across all the formats.

Sehwag led the MCC side in the Champion County match against Yorkshire in Abu Dhabi, in 2014. He also opened for the Rest of the World in the Lord's bicentenary match against MCC in the same year.

He becomes the 23rd member to be awarded honorary life membership, along with his former teammates Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble.
