Indian opener Murali Vijay has replaced David Miller as the captain of Kings XI Punjab side for the remainder of the Indian Premier League season. The decision came on the wake of KXIP’s terrible run of losing five out of six matches, which has seen them occupy the bottom of the points table.

The franchise confirmed their decision to appoint Murali Vijay as the skipper in a media release. The IPL side also announced that David Miller will continue as a player in the side.

"Miller continues to be an integral part of the team and is a very strong player of the squad," the media release said, according to NDTV.

David Miller has been in a poor run of form scoring just 76 runs at an average of 15.20. On the other hand, Murali Vijay, who will be captaining for the first time in the IPL, has faired much better than his teammate, scoring 143 runs at an average of 23.

Kings XI Punjab will next face Gujarat Lions for their seventh match of the season on Sunday at the Saurashtra Cricket Association stadium in Rajkot.
