Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk expressed disappointment after a 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Anfield. Goals from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah seemed to secure a win, but Amad Diallo’s late equalizer cost the Reds points. Despite being six points ahead of Arsenal with a game in hand, Van Dijk emphasized learning from mistakes and focusing on upcoming fixtures.

After drawing the game against Manchester United 2-2 at Anfield, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk expressed his disappointment over dropped points but acknowledged the team’s fortune in avoiding a loss. The Premier League leaders managed to recover after Lisandro Martinez's goal put United ahead, with Cody Gakpo equalizing and Mohamed Salah converting a penalty in the 70th minute. However, a late equalizer from Amad Diallo ensured United left with a point.

Van Dijk admitted Liverpool could have controlled the game better after taking a 2-1 lead but struggled to retain possession for extended periods. He highlighted the need to improve in managing games, particularly against teams employing low-block defences and direct long-ball strategies. The captain emphasized learning from the match and moving forward, rather than dwelling on the league table, where Liverpool leads by six points over Arsenal with a game in hand.

Manager Arne Slot shared a similar sentiment, labelling the result as two points dropped. He pointed out the challenges posed by United's defensive setup and physical style of play. Despite their disappointment, Slot credited United’s quality, especially from players like Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, and acknowledged defensive lapses that led to the goals conceded.
