Report | Inter leap ahead of Borussia Dortmund in Olivier Giroud chase

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Serie A giants Inter Milan have now leapfrogged Borussia Dortmund in the race to sign Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud. The Nerazzurri for long have been interested in signing the former Arsenal forward but have been without success. However, their efforts are finally coming to fruition as they are considered to be favoured by the Frenchman over other clubs. German team Borussia Dortmund are also in the hunt for the former Arsenal star. 

The report further added that Inter are ready to promise Giroud the desired amount of playing time and have already contacted the player’s representatives to discuss the same. Antonio Conte was appointed the Inter coach at the start of the season and having worked with Giroud before at Chelsea, Conte knows the player’s attitude and strong points. Inter already have two world-class strikers in the form of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez at their disposal.

Alexis Sanchez’s loan move from Manchester United is to be made permanent in January as he continues to recover from his injury.  Meanwhile, Dortmund are hoping to sign the Blues forward as they attempt to find a suitable substitute for Paco Alcacer. Alcacer has been brilliant for the Germans but his recurring injuries do not help his cause. Addition of Giroud gives Lucien Favre a chance to give adequate rest to Alcacer hence avoiding overworking Alcacer.

Giroud too has been vocal about moving away from the Stamford Bridge due to the lack of playing time given by Frank Lampard. Things could soon change as Tammy Abraham picked up an injury in the Champions League game against Valencia and could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
