They had the chance to go level on points with Manchester City until the Cityzens played Arsenal on Sunday, but Frank Lampard and his men fell well short. Instead, the Blues suffered their fourth loss in five games with Bournemouth midfielder Dan Gosling sealing the win with a cheeky finish over Kepa Arrizabalga’s head. It sealed all three points for the Cherries and ended a five-game losing streak for Eddie Howe and his men.
But Chelsea’s record at Stamford Bridge has been abject with the Blues struggling to win games with four wins out of nine games. They’ve managed to lose three games and have drawn a further two more with West Ham and Liverpool beating them in London. That has not pleased Frank Lampard and the Blues boss went on to admit that this is not how he expects his side to perform.
“In front of our fans we’re not playing well enough and getting enough results. The fans shouldn’t be excited if we’re playing 10 balls across our back four. That’s not a team I want to manage. Some responsibility is on the players to excite them and have the personality to take the ball and beat someone. I can’t find anyone wanting in terms of how we apply ourselves but what we do on the pitch is the main thing, and at the moment it’s not good enough,” said Lampard reported Reuters.
