Video footage shows Elano’s innocence in ISL final fiasco

ISL side FC Goa could find themselves in hot water after an unedited video of the happenings during the ISL final showed them leading the assault against Chennaiyin FC captain Elano. The Brazilian was arrested by the Goa Police after FC Goa co-owner Dattaraj Salgaocar filed a complaint against him.

Almost five months after the occurrence of the untoward incidents during the ISL final between FC Goa and Chennaiyin FC, an unedited video accessed exclusively by NDTV has shown that Elano did nothing that merited an arrest from Goa Police. In the video, Elano is seen trying to calm down the situation after the heated final, which was won 3-2 by Chennaiyin FC. However, unlike the previous narrative put forward by the Goan franchise, which alleged Elano of assaulting Dattaraj Salgaocar, the video shows the Brazilian star being assaulted by the FC Goa personnel before Elano ran away for his safety.

The video is likely to cause more headache to FC Goa, who will get to know their quantum of punishment for the ruckus after the ISL final when the five-member ISL regulatory commission meets on Tuesday. The video accessed by the television channel NDTV, is also submitted as part of the evidence.

After the final, Dattaraj Salgaocar had accused Elano of assaulting him and had filed an FIR in the local police station. The Brazilian was then arrested and was slapped with charges under Indian Penal Code (IPC) 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint) and 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace).
