IND vs ENG | Twitter ecstatic as three glorious sixes take Rohit past Gayle in all-time list

There's hardly a more iconic sound in sport than the leather-cork ball meeting the middle of the wooden willow and the sight of it soaring in the night sky isn't too shabby either. It is a vision Rohit Sharma certainly has seen a lot of times as he seemed to return to his best in Cuttack on Sunday.

India got their chase of 305 to a flying start in the second ODI against England with the score reading a healthy 48/0 after 6.1 overs when a floodlight failure briefly stopped play. Both Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma looked in supreme touch, the latter seemingly finding his rhythm again after a horrid few months against the red ball on the international stage. With runs also came records for Rohit, and his status as one of the greatest ODI batters to have graced the game gained further ground.

Rohit began the game tied on 331 ODI sixes with Chris Gayle, with only Shahid Afridi(351) having more in the history of the format. It took the Indian skipper just seven deliveries to go into clear second on the list as he lustlily flicked his wrists to a Gus Atkinson over-pitched delivery and sent the ball sailing over midwicket -- the very same shot that brought about his demise in the first ODI. In the next over, it was time for Rohit to sizzle the other side of the ground with outrageous effortlessness. Saqib Mahmood bowled full and wide, provoking Rohit to hunch down and gently open the face of the bat to earn another six runs. Two overs later, the bowler met the same fate, only this time the ball was straighter as was the stunning lofted drive over the bowler's head, and Rohit made sure he held the pose for the cameramen to have enough time to capture the 37-year-old in all his glory.

Rohit now finds himself just 18 sixes away from being the man with most sixes in ODI history, much to Twitterati's excitement.

One throw from the bullet arm of Ravindra Jadeja is potentially enough to take a life, a threat Chris Brown was accidentally under for a moment in Cuttack on Sunday.
