‌Coetzee ruled out of Champions Trophy after being named in Tri-series squad

In a fresh report, South African pacer Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the upcoming Tri-series with New Zealand and Pakistan after being originally named in the ODI squad. The Proteas have named six uncapped players for the first ODI against New Zealand at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

In a major blow to the South African cricket team, Coetzee has been ruled out of the upcoming Tri-series and the 2025 Champions Trophy. Originally omitted, he was supposed to fill the void for injured Anrich Nortje in the ICC event. Having missed a chunk of matches for the Joburg Super Kings in the SA20, the speedster was all set to go under the selectors’ radar in the tri-series. However, he felt tightness in his groin during practice sessions, resulting in his omission. 

CSA’s release stated that Coetzee "experienced tightness in his groin while completing his 10 overs at training on Wednesday morning at the Centre of Excellence in Pretoria”.

Previously, the CSA announced a 12-man squad for the upcoming season with Keshav Maharaj and Heinrich Klaasen set to join the side from February 12 and available for their second ODI against Pakistan. Eathan Bosch, Matthew Breetzke, Mihlali Mpongwana, Senuran Muthusamy, Gideon Peters, and Meeka-eel Prince are have earned maiden call-ups to the side and might make their debut in the upcoming series.
