‌IPL 2024 | Twitter erupts as Fraser-McGurk storm and Kuldeep magic sets up much-needed Capitals triumph

Winning the toss and electing to bat first did not yield sweet fruits for Lucknow Super Giants as Khaleel Ahmed managed to snap their top-order southpaws, Quinton de Kock and Devdutt Padikkal. However, Rahul counterpunched the DC bowlers, striking over 200 at one point in time to sum up a 57-run powerplay. In the next four overs, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel regulated the phase efficiently with the former outwitting Marcus Stoinis, Nicholas Pooran, and Rahul. With the score reflecting 80/5, the wickets of Deepak Hooda and Krunal Pandya in the 12th and 13th over respectively added to their woes before Ayush Badoni and debutant Arshad Khan stabilized the ship. To everyone’s surprise, the eight-wicket stand remained unbridled for the remainder of the innings with Badoni racing to a fifty and Arshad playing second fiddle to him. They smoked 39 runs in the last three overs to propel LSG from 94/7 to 167/7 in 20 overs. 

In reply, the Capitals got an early blow with David Warner chopping on in the fourth over. However, With debutant Jake Fraser-McGurk accompanying Prithvi Shaw, the LSG bowlers were teed apart by the former, summing up a 62-run powerplay. Right after, the introduction of Ravi Bishnoi ended Shaw’s stay for 22-ball 32. This resulted in a dry period for DC with just 13 runs coming off the next four overs. With 75/2 in ten overs, Rishabh Pant and Fraser-McGurk teed the opposition left, right, and center, extracting 61 runs from the ensuing four overs. After three sixes on the trot against Krunal Pandya and racing to a half-century on debut, the Melbourne Renegades opener holed out in the deep in the 15th over with Pant following him back to the hut in five balls space. The 77-run third wicket partnership reduced the equation to 22 required from 27 balls that Shai Hope and Tristan Stubbs convincingly overhauled with the latter finishing off with a six and eleven balls to spare.
