IPL 2020 | Made a few mistakes as a group but its learning curve, brushes off KL Rahul

In a close see-saw contest between the two sides, Delhi and Punjab, Shreyas Iyer led Capitals came on top of the contest in the super over. However, it wasn’t heading that direction until KXIP’s opener Mayank Agarwal almost carried his bat throughout the entire innings, scoring an 89 off 60 deliveries, with seven boundaries and four sixes, nearly taking Punjab home. 

However, in the end, Punjab had to settle for a loss as Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis shut out their late surge, with a twin wicket to close the encounter. Following the loss, KXIP’s skipper KL Rahul admitted that it’s a bittersweet experience but still is a learning curve for the franchise. 

“It is bittersweet. At the end of 10 overs, I would have taken the Super Over. We wish to learn from our mistakes and build as a team. Mayank was unbelievable. to get the game that close is a magical effort. That is the type of innings we expect from someone like him. Nice to see him bring his confidence to the IPL,” he said, reported ESPNCricinfo. 

He also added that he was unsure of what was a good total after winning the toss. KL Rahul was, however, confident that the team would turn their fortunes around, learning from their mistakes. 

“Obviously this gets the group closer. Like I said at the toss, we didn't really know what to expect of the pitch. Didn't think it would be sticky, but both teams got 150+. I'd gladly take it as a captain, most important is the effort. We made a few mistakes, but that's a learning for the group. If you saw the dressing room, even at 55 for 5 it was a calm dressing room,” he added.
