The Committee of Administrators (CoA) has decided to meet the North East states’ cricket bodies in order to help them to implement the Lodha committee reforms. The elections for the states bodies are due and each one of them is expected to be Lodha compliant in order to be eligible.

The Committee of Administrators (CoA) had announced the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) elections for October 22 and had also planned to wrap up the state body elections by the end of September.

The state bodies are expected to be in compliance with the reforms of the Lodha committee well before that. The north-east state bodies will be conducting their first ever elections after receiving the full member status and will require more clarity with regard to various aspects. The cooling off period is one of the issues that need addressing and the CoA is expected to meet the state officials on May 27 in New Delhi with regard to the same.

“There are a few issues that north-east states’ representatives needs clarity. The major issue is when would be their cooling off period start. They were not full voting members before 2018. So they have a valid claim that their tenure should start with this year’s state association elections and cooling off starts after three years,” said a BCCI official requesting anonymity, reported PTI.

The bodies also need ample funds for developing the infrastructure and also to conduct local matches. The official maintained that funds should not be an issue once the bodies are compliant.

“They need funds but as the amicus has pointed out that after scrutiny, if they are found compliant, release of funds shall not be a problem,” shared the official.
