IPL 2019 | Jasprit Bumrah is the best bowler in the world at this stage, says Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar has hailed Jasprit Bumrah’s incredible consistency and even went as far as calling him the best bowler in the world at the moment. Bumrah, meanwhile, stated that Zaheer Khan was after him to bowl more outswingers since the tournament's beginning and he thanked him for that.

Jasprit Bumrah has been head and shoulders above everyone else as far the fear factor goes this IPL and especially in the death. Bowling 172 balls in the death overs (17 to 20), he kept an economy rate of 7.67, which is by far the best among bowlers to have sent down at least ten overs at the death. Bumrah's 13 wickets during that period was also second only to Rabada's tally of 17. Hailing such magnificent numbers and the fear factor that he brings to the table, Sachin Tendulkar went on record to say that the former is the best bowler in the world at this stage.

"Let me go on record and say that he is the best bowler in the world at this stage. And the best is yet to come, hopefully," Tendulkar said as a reply to Yuvraj Singh’s comments of "I think he is bowling the best I have seen in his career," when the duo was having a conversation on IPLt20.com.

Among bowlers to have sent down at least 60 overs this season, only Rashid Khan had a better economy rate for the season - 6.28 - than Bumrah's 6.63. However, more than the number of wickets he has taken or the runs he gave away, his bowling mostly ensured that Mumbai stayed in the game even when the chips were down. On being asked to explain the process, the down-to-earth cricketer said he always tries to keep the damage to a minimum and execute what he had in his mind.

"Just trying to be calm, always learning from all the legends of the game that we have over here, trying to execute, trying to keep things simple whenever I'm trying to bowl … so that's probably it," Bumrah told Zaheer Khan about his agenda out in the middle.

Speaking of Zaheer, who took over the role of Director of Cricket Operations, Bumrah said, "He's been behind me for the outswingers since the tournament's beginning. I told him I'd bowl it, but he was behind me all the time 'you should bowl it more often'. So after bowling it today he was very happy."
