Chennai Super Kings suffered a top-order collapse in yet another game and the franchise needed their skipper to stand up and deliver against Rajasthan Royals. However, for a moment, it seemed like Chennai would go on the same way as Royal Challengers Bangalore when Jofra Archer’s delivery almost sent MS Dhoni packing.
On the fourth delivery of the sixth over, Archer bowled a typical incoming delivery against which Dhoni moved deep into the crease to defend off the back foot. It was a difficult shot to execute as Archer was bowling with real pace, 142.7kph to be particular, and Dhoni had a small inside edge to it while trying to tickle it through his legs.
The ball was almost dead by then and was moving on the direction of uprooting the CSK skipper’s stumps, but Dhoni had the blessing of his stump Gods. The LED light didn’t flash even when the ball touched the stumps, leaving the entire Royals line-up unhappy. Ben Stokes couldn’t even understand what had happened on that ball as he stretched his hand to beg for MS Dhoni’s dismissal.
